Energy-Efficient Upgrades for Tenants – ECO4 Grants

As a tenant, you can benefit from the GBIS & ECO4 schemes, which are designed to improve your home's energy efficiency while reducing your energy bills.

The Eco Group is here to help you access free funding for various energy-saving improvements to make your living space more comfortable and environmentally friendly.

What is ECO4?

The Energy Company Obligation (ECO4) is a UK government initiative to tackle fuel poverty and reduce carbon emissions. Starting April 1, 2022, and running until March 31, 2026, ECO requires energy companies to implement energy efficiency measures in homes rated D-G, prioritising private homes in E-G.

New minimum requirements mandate that homes in bands D and E be upgraded to at least band C. In contrast, F and G homes must reach band D. Measures include insulation, first-time central heating, and renewable energy solutions. A portion of energy bills (7-13%) funds ECO, helping to lower energy costs for inefficient properties and improve overall energy efficiency.

What is GBIS?

The Great British Insulation Scheme is a new government energy efficiency scheme (formerly known as ECO+) administered by Ofgem. It is designed to improve the least energy-efficient homes in Great Britain to tackle fuel poverty and help reduce energy bills.

The scheme complements the Energy Company Obligation (ECO4) scheme, yet unlike ECO4’s ‘whole house’ approach, this scheme will mostly deliver single insulation measures.

It also supports low-income and vulnerable households. It is available to those living in homes with an Energy Performance Certificate rating of D-G and within Council Tax bands A-D in England and A-E in Scotland and Wales.

The scheme works by placing an obligation on medium and large energy companies to deliver measures that reduce energy usage. The scheme began in April 2023 and is scheduled to end in April 2026.
